Jeremy Zawodny is giving away (on craigslist) his first webserver. This is the server that hosted what was probably the first online voting experiement. A feat, that in nearly 10 years most major goverments of the world have been unable to replicate. It's a decent machine (Pentium 133 with 96MB of RAM), I still have a 200mhz AMD running here in my house. Though that machine is on it's third power supply, 2nd hard drive and 2nd optical drive it's a rock-solid machine that only goes down when the power goes out.
It sounds more like something that should end up in a museum not on craigslist. it at least deserves a chance on ebay!

because, you know, it's OK to block the boot process (/etc/init.d/mysql hangs) becuase MySQL can't write to disk, in fact, if your going to do this, make absolutely sure that you startup before sshd. Also, under no cirumstances report useful messages to the terminal. Because, we all know that the MySQL people are in cahoots with the remote hands service at datacenters (it's a freemason-like secret society thing) and are all just conspiring to rack up remote hands charges.

There is *no* reason why sshd should not startup after the network comes online.

Alice’s Restaurant sucks

Alice's Restaurant sucks.
In the words of an IMDB comment.

The story was non-existent, characters weak, and relationships confusing. The song is great though. Don't go out of your way to see this film, you won't really miss much.

In the end, I suggest you go far out of your way to NOT see this movie. And to think, I paused a much better movie, by droves, to watch this (not of my own free will).
I would always have to say, I find the army recruiting shit ridiculious. This character who purports to oppose the draft ends up cooperating with the people trying to kill him. If I was in that situation it would be quite simple. I would refuse to comply, I belive in the principles of a free nation, and entirely belive that a draft violates those principles.

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Remember that? It's The Constitution of the United States of America the supreme law of the United States of America.
No sane, logical person can fit the concept of a draft within those principles and.
I'm pretty much grasping for straws trying to find things about this movie to hate because as much as this movie has things to actively hate about it I hate it to a much more severe degree for it's utter lack of a storyline or any compelling action within the story. I don't care about these characters, even the central one is utterly laughable.
Overall, the absolutely worst movie I have ever seen by far.

Wordpress 2

Anyone who knows me will find this entirely unsuprising. I tried to upgrade to wordpress 2, I didn't do a database backup first, I forgot to copy the dark_maple theme to the new wordpress 2 directory and subsequently got very frustrated when wordpress refused to use the dark_maple theme, It doesn't help that upon logging in wordpress told me that the current theme was "invalid", it should have said missing. I got annoyed, tried to downgrade to wordpress 1.6, DUH, no database backup made that very hard. I did a database dump, some judiciously applied sed commands later I had a semi-working wordpress 1.6 install. I tried again today to move to 2.0, however the database was in such a piss-poor state that I did a complete re-install and then "manually" copied over the posts and comments table.

Aside from this, which was entirely my stupid-ass fault, wordpress 2.0 is looking like a very nice upgrade. It's not hardly revolutionary, but it's very nice and at this point it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to re-revolutionize the wordpress blogging platform. Kudos Wordpress dev team.
The use of Ajax is very nice and sleek, i think later I will turn off Javascript and see what happens.

it's also using atom .03, which is an obviously deprecieated format.

google news Atom feed — 116 errors — it's also Atom .03
the google news RSS feed does validate, but with some serious cavets in fact, i'm not sure it really *does* validate, more likely the feed validator is choking for some reason or there is some badly nested XML.
Having some invalid HTML on their homepage is one thing, but having invalid XML served as feeds is entirely inexcusable.
