Don’t buy from usbgear.com — they don’t want you

Don't buy from USBGear.com, they aren't selling. They don't want your money.
I bought a nice USB Serial Adapter to hook up my Earthmate GPS to my powerbook (apple is too dainty to include serial ports) from usbgear.com. Since I finally got roadmap to compile cleanly on my powerbook and the fact that i'm going on vacation soon (BEACH!) I figured it would be nice to actually have this cable. Plus, it was only 16$ (well, that's if you don't count the 45$ bluetooth headset I bought for my phone on the same order). Also, since i'm going to have to be driving soon and I have about as much sense of direction as our friend tom (we will meet him later) does of sales I figured I would need the GPS. Somehow their system processed my order about 10 times and between 6:30am and 6:40am I got ten copies of my order in my inbox. Annoying, yes but I was sure they would clear it up.
At about 6:55am I got this friendly email from their "fraud" division.

we have your orders please stop spaming our system!

I suspect that if I wrote something like that to a customer I would most likely be unemployed pretty quickly.
I replied, in friendly fashion, asking why 10 copies of my order were created. I never got an actual response, only an automed response that indicated that the support ticket had been closed.
So, at about 9am I get 9 emails, annoucning that the duplicated orders have been canceled. That's good.
Tuesday rolls around and I do not have a shipping confirmation with a tracking number. I drop an email to Rene@usbgear.com asking for an order status. Needless to say I did not recieve a reply. So, today I called around 10:30am Tom, who was rather annoying and somewhat dismissive answered the phone. He was unsure what was going on but would check it out and get back to me via email. 12:30 rolls around and I call back. Sorry, no update was the only response followed by a hangup. I decided to let it pass.
3:30 rolled around, now 5 hours since my first call. Surely tom would have something for me now. But, alas, no. His only response was that my order was marked "do not process". Can you startup a new order for me. No. Just no. How about finding out who marked it as do-not-process. Well, he answered as he launched into his long speech, that would mean he would have to possibly *gasp* leave his desk and *oh my* TALK TO PEOPLE! as task for which this guy is obviously not suited. So, I asked him, what should I do? The only response was silence. I guess you just don't want my buisness then. More silence. That's one hell of a way to run a buisness I quipped. he chuckled, not the response I was hoping for.
So, you see, don't bother buying from usbgear.com, they don't want your money.

UPDATE: 4:50pm Oh, by the way, their phone number is (727) 563-9956, choose option #2 and tell tom your never buying from USBGear.com

UPDATE: 5:00pm oh, look J&R has it. And J&R is on my way home. What luck.

  1. USBGEAR:

It helps if a customer is capable of placing an order online, this customer placed TEN orders within a one hour span. We do not like to have our system spamed.
