Apples and Water Don’t Mix
My Laptop Died. So i'm pissed off! I took it out of my bag this morning after getting to class and realized that the lid on my platypus water bottle was loose and my entire bag was soaked including my laptop! I mobilized into action using the dry sections of my new york times to dry off the laptop. I turned it over and drained the water from the keyboard, pulled out the battery and dried it off. I then put it on the desk and left it there. For nearly an hour. I tried, I know your not supposed to turn a laptop back on after it's been exposed to water but I couldn't resisit! I'm sorry!
I turned it on and….. it was totally stone-cold dead. I almost cried. I muddled through the rest of the morning classes including a math class that made me realize just how long it's been since I took high-school algebra. Good thing I have a calculator that solves all the problems for you
spend 1/2 hour factoring x^2-12x+35 ? nah just type factor(2x^2+12x+35) and the TI-89 tells you that it factors to (x-7)*(x-5). I hate following the rules.
So anyway at lunch I head out to the internet and find this apple KB article that tells you to reset the PMU (power management unit) by pressing shift-control-command-powerkey. I reset the PMU no dice.
I then find on the same page that there is a reset button under the keyboard. I start ripping keys off the keyboard to get access to the screws underneath. After finding that the small pocket screwdriver that I always thought would save my life one day is too large I start replacing the keys.
I then stumble across a message board post that says to do the PMU thing but three-times over and for ten seconds each time. I do. I then unplug it. Plug it back in. Push the power button. I hear the sweetest sound in the universe that mac start-up sound.
Nothing happens. No grey screen, no nothing. About a hundred PMU resets later I give up.
I make an appointment for the Apple Store Genius bar for 5:30 grudgingly decide to stay for the rest of the day.
It's 3:30 and I just spent the past half hour doing nothing but writing this blog post and hacking the computers to get firefox installed so I didn't have to use IE (see last weeks post).
I think i'm going to stick out the next half hour and just run into the city and get this thing fixed.
On a strange note kerry chose edwards as his running mate. I don't know anything about edwards but he did have a cool campaign map on his site that I blogged about a bit ago.
On a site note how long is it going to be before someone refers to them as "the johns" or "john and john"?
